Experience New Zealand’s most iconic native species
This 60-minute Ranger-led Kiwi Icons Tour offers a deeper understanding of some of Aotearoa’s most iconic native species through storytelling, observation, and conservation learning.
Meet kiwi in the Nocturnal House and learn about their unique adaptations, nocturnal behaviour, and the conservation efforts helping protect them across New Zealand. Encounter the ancient tuatara, a living relic from the dinosaur age, and discover why this remarkable reptile remains such an important part of our biodiversity story.
The tour also explores the fascinating world of tuna (freshwater eels), including both shortfin and endangered longfin species. Learn about their extraordinary life cycle, cultural significance, and ecological importance, with the opportunity to feed tuna under Ranger guidance.
Designed as a calm and enriching experience focused on connection and learning, the tour includes general entry to the reserve so you can continue exploring before or after your experience.
